Springfield teen charged with second degree murder, armed criminal action

Following Lafferty’s arrest on June 16, 2023, as a suspect in the June 15 homicide on S. Virginia, the Springfield Police Department presented the case to the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office and Perry Lafferty was charged with second degree murder and armed criminal action. Lafferty is being held in the Greene County Jail with no bond.

The Greene County Prosecutor’s Office cautions that the charges contained in the felony complaint are merely allegations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.

On June 16, 2023, the Springfield Police Department Homicide Unit identified Peyton Lafferty, 18, from Springfield, as a suspect in the June 15 homicide on S. Virginia. Yesterday, detectives arrested Lafferty and booked him into the Greene County Jail.

The case has been presented to the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

On June 15, 2023, at 11:23 p.m., the Springfield Police Department responded to the report of shots fired and someone who had been shot at 3417 S. Virginia. Officers found a male victim, Jason Walker, 22, from Springfield, with gunshot wounds. Walker was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Walker later died from his injuries at the hospital. Walker’s family has been notified.






 

A suspect has not been identified at this time.

This is Springfield’s eighth homicide investigation in 2023.
