Springfield Police plans added presence during Street Machine Nationals

(From the Springfield Police Department)

The 28th Annual Street Machine Nationals will be held this weekend at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds. Historically, the participants and fans have congregated after the Fairgrounds event in the evening hours along the roadways and parking lots in the area of Glenstone and Kearney to watch the “street machines” cruise by. While this portion is not an organized activity, the Springfield Police Department will be providing an enforcement presence to ensure the safety of the public.

Police officers will be looking for alcohol violations such as DWI, Minors in Possession and open containers. Officers will also be strictly enforcing ordinances prohibiting racing, careless and imprudent driving and exhibitions of speed (burnouts), as well as spectators assisting in those activities, to include pouring liquid on the pavement to enhance “burnouts.”

Because Glenstone Avenue is a major traffic artery in the city, motorists will be expected to keep the flow of traffic moving by not stopping or blocking other cars and by obeying all traffic signals.
