Historic Commercial Street, in collaboration with the family and friends of Gary Waldrop, welcomes the fall season with a dedication and unveiling of the Dr. Tickle Memorial Sculpture. The event begins at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16 on Commercial Street in the alleyway between Boonville and Campbell.
The dedication ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m. with Amy Waldrop and artists Linda Passeri and Joe Malesky.
This sculpture is an 11-foot-tall steel characterization of Gary Waldrop, also known as “Dr. Tickle,” as a tribute to the artist and pioneer of art and historic restoration on Commercial Street. Gary passed away from cancer in 2011 but will always be remembered for his work.
The sculpture was paid for by donations from family and friends with additional support from the Downtown Springfield Association, the Springfield Regional Arts Council, the City of Springfield Public Works, the Commercial Club, and C-Street CID.
