Springfield/Greene County outdoor pools to open Memorial Day weekend

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board's outdoor pools are open Memorial Day weekend, with pools reopening for summer season Saturday, May 31.

All six outdoor pools, including Fassnight, Grant Beach, McGee/McGregor Wading Pool, Meador, Silver Springs and Westport, open Saturday, May 24, and Sunday, May 25, from 1-6:30 p.m. Fassnight, Grant Beach and Meador pools are also open Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, 1-6:30 p.m. for Memorial Day Splash & Sizzle discount admission price.

Starting Saturday, May 31, outdoor pools are open for the season. Each pool is open six days a week, 1-6:30 p.m., through August 10 or 11 (depending on location.) Maintenance days are staggered Monday through Wednesday, and all outdoor pools are open Thursday through Sunday. View a schedule at parkboard.org/aquatics.

"We have at least five pools open every day of the week, including indoor facilities at Chesterfield and Doling Family Centers," said Marc Baker, Aquatics Coordinator for the Park Board. "All eight pools are open Thursdays through Sundays, so there are plenty of options to choose from."

McGee/McGregor Wading Pool, for children 6 and under, operates on a slightly different schedule: Tuesday- Saturday, 10 a.m.- 12 p.m. and 1-4 p.m.; and Sunday 1-4 p.m.

With funds from the voter-approved 2006 Parks Sales Tax, the Park Board completely renovated Fassnight (2009), Silver Springs (2010), Grant Beach (2011) and Westport (2012) outdoor pools, adding splash features, slides and other amenities. The former Doling Pool was replaced by the Doling Indoor Aquatics Facility in 2013. Attendance at each pool has more than doubled since renovations.

Daily outdoor pool admission is $2.50 /youth and seniors, $3/adults. Admission drops to $1, or a free with a canned food item donation, at 5:30 p.m. Discount coupon books and season passes are available.

Outdoor pool admission prices apply to the indoor aquatics facilities at Chesterfield and Doling Family Centers, 1-6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Outside of these hours, indoor aquatics facilities admission is $6/youth and seniors, $8/adults, or $22/family.

Splash & Sizzle events return to select pools on Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day, plus Friday and Saturday evenings in July, with all-day $1 admission, or free with a canned food item. Last year, Splash & Sizzle generated 11,877 lbs. of canned food items, which was donated to Ozarks Food Harvest.
