Southwest Baptist University would like to offer the following information and statement about the deaths of Gary Tyrrell and his wife, Jan.

According to Larry Price, director of the SBU-Mountain View center, Tyrrell had been a part-time adjunct instructor at the SBU-Mountain View campus since 1990. He primarily taught classes in the subject areas of U.S. history and geography.

“Gary was a loyal instructor for our institution,” Price said. “Students always appreciated and respected him. He cherished the time he got to spend with students here. Students loved him. We loved him. Our prayers go out to his family.”

“We were saddened and shocked to hear about the death of one of our instructors, Gary Tyrrell, and his wife, Jan,” said Dr. C. Pat Taylor, president of Southwest Baptist University. “He had been an adjunct instructor for us for many years and enjoyed a great reputation with our students. He was liked and respected by his colleagues and we will miss him. The SBU community grieves this great loss. Our prayers are with his family during this very difficult time.”
