Two-thousand, five-hundred and twenty-two Hepatitis A vaccines have been administered in the past week as a result of efforts between the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, Mercy Springfield and CoxHealth.
After the Health Department was notified May 20 of an individual working at a local restaurant who had tested positive for Hepatitis A, department leadership decided to alert the public out of an abundance of caution.
Partners with Mercy Springfield and CoxHealth immediately stepped to the plate, offering to hold vaccination clinics over the long Memorial Day Weekend.
Together, the health systems gave 488 shots over three days. Staff at the Health Department’s Westside Public Health Center gave 23 shots this morning, on top of the 2,011 given last Thursday and Friday.
Together, 2,522 vaccines were administered from Thursday, May 22 through today, Tuesday, May 27.
Anyone still needing to be vaccinated can set up an appointment at our Westside Public Health Center at 660 S. Scenic Avenue by calling (417) 874-1220. We will also have a walk-in clinic from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 28.
The last day for the vaccine to be effective to prevent Hepatitis A from this situation is Friday, May 30.
