Springfield resident killed in accident, another airlifted to Cox, driver cited for felony DWI

A Republic man was charged with felony driving while intoxicated following a one-vehicle accident in which one person was killed, another airlifted to Cox South Hospital with serious injuries and two others also injured.

The accident occurred 4 a.m today on Terrell Valley Road, a half mile south of Republic. According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2012 Dodge Challenger driven by Daniel T. McLeod, 56, Republic, ran off the roadway and overturned.

A passenger, Shane A. House, 25, Springfield, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:05 a.m. by Christian County Coroner Mandi Armitage.

Another passenger, Amanda R. Medlin, 24, Springfield, was airlifted to Cox South to be treated for serious injuries.

McLeod and another passenger, Brayden T. McLeod, 22, Republic, suffered minor injuries, but refused treatment at the scene.

In addition to the DWI charge, D. McLeod was also cited for careless and imprudent driving and for not wearing a seat belt.

The fatality was the 36th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
