Shell Knob pedestrians killed when pickup slams into them in crosswalk

The Branson Police Department along with Branson Fire Department and Taney County Ambulance District responded to an auto pedestrian crash at Branson Landing Blvd and Main Street at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2019.

A 1999 Ford truck operated by Steven C. Weter of Hollister was traveling southbound on Branson Landing Blvd. A group of pedestrians was standing at the intersection waiting to cross. The pedestrians entered the marked crosswalk to walk across Branson Landing Blvd and were struck by the truck. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Gregory T. Curnes, Laura A. Curnes, and Jean L. Moncrief, all of Shell Knob, were transported by ground ambulance to a Springfield hospital for treatment. Laura Curnes later died from injuries she sustained in the crash. The City of Branson extends its sincerest condolences to the family as they mourn the loss of Mrs. Curnes.

(Note: Moncrief died after this news release was issued.)

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the Branson Police Department. Anyone who witnessed this accident is asked to contact Sgt. Kauffman at 417-334-3300.
