Intersection of John and Catulpa to remain closed until Wednesday afternoon

UPDATE: Due to weather and ground conditions, the intersection of John Avenue and Catalpa Street will remain closed until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20 for crews to complete construction work.

Original Release:

Catalpa Street will close to traffic between Gelven Avenue and John Avenue beginning 7 a.m., Monday, Feb. 18 through 5 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 19 for the completion of utility relocations and the installation of stormwater improvements. Catalpa Street will remain closed to pedestrians during construction. Motorists are advised to seek an alternate route.







About the Gelven Withers Stormwater Improvement Project

The Gelven Withers Stormwater Improvement Project consists of the construction of new stormwater sewer piping, curb inlets, area inlets, and paving along John Avenue, Gelven Avenue and Catalpa Street. It also includes re-grading of existing stormwater detention areas along John Avenue and excavating new detention on the west side of John Avenue.

The project is funded through the voter-approved 1/4-cent Capital Improvement Sales Tax.
