According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1999 Ford Explorer driven by Sarah K. Hartman, 30, Seymour, traveled off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected into wrong lane of traffic and slid sideways back into the correct lane where it was struck by a 2006 Dodge Ram driven by Robert M. Rear, 78, Strafford, near the driver's side door.
Dr. Matt Simpson pronounced Hartman dead at 1:34 p.m. at Cox South Hospital, Springfield.
Rear and a passenger in his vehicle, Vicki L. Rear, 67, Strafford, were treated for minor injuries at Mercy Hospital, Springfield.
The fatality was the eighth this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
