Two people were killed and two injured in a two-vehicle accident 9:20 p.m. Friday on MO 97 at U. S. 60 three miles west of Monett.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2014 Subaru Legacy driven by Hao Yan, 36, St. Louis, failed to stop at a stop sign and traveled into the path of a 2000 Chevrolet Subaru driven by Barry W. Jones, 49, Independence. After impact, both vehicles traveled off the roadway.
Barry County Coroner Gary Swearingin pronounced two passengers in the Yan vehicle, Xiaoxiao Zheng, 32, and a 1-year-old boy, both of St. Louis, dead at the scene at 10:15 p.m.
Yan and another passenger in his vehicle, a 3-year-old St. Louis girl, were treated for moderate injuries at Mercy Joplin.
The fatalities were the 93rd and 94th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
