Springfield Public Schools (SPS) is pleased to announce that Dr. Kirk Slater has been selected as the next principal of Jarrett Middle School, effective July 1.

Dr. Slater is the current assistant principal of Hillcrest High School, having served in that capacity for eleven years. Prior to his leadership at Hillcrest, his experience as a math teacher and coach included service at Glendale High School and the Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Texas.

"My passion is to be a catalyst in creating a community of learners where every student and teacher has an opportunity to reach his or her potential and every stakeholder feels valued," said Dr. Slater. "I have a genuine desire to invest in the lives of others, building coalitions and relationships that are key to the educational process."

Dr. Slater received a bachelor of science in human resource management from Missouri State University, a post-baccalaureate in education with an emphasis in mathematics from Texas Tech University, a master's degree in educational leadership from Evangel University, and a doctorate in educational leadership from Southwest Baptist University.

"We are pleased to welcome Dr. Slater to Jarrett Middle School," said Dr. Shane Dublin, executive director of secondary learning. "Dr. Slater has been an effective SPS administrator for more than a decade and his enthusiasm for embracing this new opportunity is evident. We look forward to seeing the positive impact of his leadership in support of our students, staff and school community."
