(From the Springfield Police Department)On July 1, 2023, at 10:45 p.m., the Springfield Police Department responded to a report of a person shot at 214 W. Madison Street.
Officers found Keontae Tureaud, 19, from Springfield, with gunshot wounds. Tureaud was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Nikolai Janes, 20, from Springfield, was on scene and was identified as a suspect in the shooting.
On July 2, 2023, Janes was arrested and booked into the Greene County Jail for 2nd Degree Assault. The case was presented to the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office and Janes was charged with 2nd Degree Assault and Armed Criminal Action. Janes is being held with a bond of $100,000.
On July 3, 2023, Tureaud died from his injuries. Tureaud’s family has been notified.
The Greene County Prosecutor’s Office cautions that the charges contained in the felony complaint are merely allegations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
