Springfield woman killed in two-vehicle crash on I-44

The Springfield Police Department was dispatched to an injury car crash near the 81 mile marker of I-44 at 01:39 a.m. on June 18. 

 A 2013 Toyota Prius driven by Sandra L. Witty, 69, of Springfield, was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes on I-44 when it struck a 2006 Dodge Dakota driven by Jimmy L. Nichols, 34, of Ash Grove, which was traveling westbound on I-44. Nichols reported minor injuries and Witty was pronounced deceased the scene. 

There is no evidence of impairment at this time and the investigation is ongoing. Next of kin has been notified.

This marks the seventh fatality crash in Springfield for 2017.
