Barry County patrol car collides with school bus, deputy killed

A Barry County sheriff's deputy was killed in a collision with a school bus 10:49 a.m. today on MO 37 at Farm Road 1060, a half mile south of Washburn.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2016 Ford Explorer Barry County Sheriff's Office patrol car driven by Deputy Carl T. Cosper, 56, Pineville, was southbound on 37 when a Washburn School District 2006 Bluebird school bus driven by William D. Reeves. 60, Seligman, which was attempting to turn failed to yield.

Cosper, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle. The school bus driver was not injured. No children were on the bus when the accident occurred.

Dr. K. D. Cox pronounced Cosper dead at 12:09 p.m. at Mercy Hospital, Cassville.

The fatality was the 22nd for Highway Patrol Troop D this year.
