Springfield superintendent addresses failure of bond issue

(From John Jungmann, Springfield Public School superintrendent)

Good morning,

As you may know, Proposition SPS was not approved by voters yesterday. This is not the outcome we had hoped for, but we are encouraged that almost 51 percent of voters were in favor of the proposal. Unfortunately, the issue required a 4/7ths majority vote to be implemented.
I would like to say thank you to those community members who voted yesterday and to the many volunteers who worked on behalf of our students and staff to advocate for Proposition SPS. I also want to assure those who supported the proposed facility improvements that the SPS school board and administration will continue its work to create quality learning environments at all our schools.

As we move forward with the important work of serving our 25,000 students, we will consider other options for how we can execute our long-range Facility Master Plan, which was developed through a year-long process with significant input from our employees, parents, students and community members.

We remain committed to addressing the facility needs identified in the plan in order to provide learning environments for all students that facilitate engaging, relevant and personal learning experiences.

Sincerely,

Dr. John Jungmann
Superintendent
