On May 17, 2020, at 10:22 p.m. Traffic Officers with the Springfield Police Department were dispatched to an injury crash at Kansas Expressway and Norton Road.
A 2004 Mazda 6, driven by 24-year-old Timothy West of Amsterdam, Missouri, was traveling southbound when it struck a male pedestrian who was crossing westbound.
The pedestrian was identified as 46-year-old William (Joe) Wake of Springfield, next of kin has been notified. Wake was transported to Mercy via ambulance where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation is ongoing, and impairment is not believed to be a factor in this crash.
This is the 6th fatality crash and 7th traffic fatality in Springfield in 2020.
