Springfield Public Schools is pleased to announce the selection of Shawn DeWitt as the next principal of Harrison Elementary, effective July 1.
Ms. DeWitt is the current principal of grades 6-12 for the Willow Lake School District in South Dakota, where she also serves as an assessment and curriculum coordinator.
Shawn will follow Dr. Josh Holt as he transitions to a new role within SPS.
Prior to her leadership role in Willow Lake, Ms. DeWitt served 13 years as a teaching and learning specialist for an education cooperative and 12 years as an English Language Arts instructor at the middle and high school levels. Her experience also includes five years as an adjunct professor in education.
"It is a blessing to join the dedicated and talented team at Harrison Elementary in the service of our students and families," said Ms. Shawn DeWitt. "I believe all students can learn and grow and I will strive to support the vision of empowering lifelong learners."
Ms. DeWitt completed her undergraduate work at South Dakota State University and graduate studies in education at Black Hills State University. Shawn is currently completing her Education Specialist degree from the University of Sioux Falls.
"I'm very excited to welcome Shawn to our SPS team," said Dr. J. Anderson, executive director of elementary learning. "Her professionalism, passion for learning, and calm and reassuring demeanor will be an asset for our students, staff and community."
