Springfield mayor calls for day of prayer as coronavirus concerns continue

(From the City of Springfield)

Springfield Mayor Ken McClure is calling for a day of prayer on Sunday, March 15, 2020 in the community’s houses of worship.

“The social distancing strategies that Director Goddard outlined during Friday’s news briefing about coronavirus (COVID-19) are going to be very helpful in our continued efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Springfield and Greene County.

"We do recognize, however, that in times of trouble, people need one another. We must find a balance in creating connections that a void of social distancing can bring,” McClure said.

“In times of trouble, people especially need their faith. We value the faith community and we are leaning on them to help us figure out ways to we can all stay connected, while minimizing risk to our more vulnerable neighbors.”

McClure also mentioned that the City and County are continuing discussions with faith leaders about the topic and seeking creative input to be shared across all of the faith traditions.
