Greene County Sheriff's Office taking steps to protect prisoners from COVID-19

(From the Greene County Sheriff's Office)

Greene County Sheriff’s Office has had a few inquiries concerning COVID-19 within our inmate population. Currently, there are no inmates housed in Greene County Jail being quarantined or diagnosed with COVID-19 (Corona Virus).

However, Greene County Sheriff’s Office Staff are taking the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of communicable diseases.

Upon intake into Greene County Jail, individuals are evaluated by Medical Staff. They are checked for elevated body temperature, shortness of breath and persistent coughing. Individuals are also asked about any recent travel within and/or outside of the country.

If any inmates were to display symptoms of COVID-19, they would be quarantined and placed in a cell separate from other inmates.

Jail Staff is working with the Springfield-Greene County Health Department and local hospitals to form a contingency plan if we were to have an inmate need hospitalization and treatment due to COVID-19.

Jail staff members are cleaning/disinfecting work areas regularly and utilizing gloves, mask and hand sanitizer to prevent the spread of germs. Inmate trustees are cleaning and disinfecting the housing units and individual cells regularly to prevent the spread of germs.
