Three children killed, six other family members injured in crash on I-44 near Springfield, fund set up for family

Three Clever children were killed and six other family members injured in a two-vehicle collision 2:35 p.m. Thursday on I-44, a quarter of a mile west of the Springfield city limits.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2013 Volvo truck was stopped on the shoulder and pulled back into the roadway in the path of a 2014 Ford E350 van driven by Claudia Dobos, 35, Clever.

The Dobos vehicle swerved to avoid the truck and struck its towed trailer unit and the truck itself.

The Dobos vehicle traveled off the roadway and struck the cable barrier, ejecting three occupants.

The three passengers, Angelina Dobos, 7, Julia Dobos, 6, and Olivia Dobos, 8, were pronounced dead at the scene at 3:54 p.m. by Greene County Medical Examiner Noah Cross.

Another passenger, Genevieve Dobos, 12, was treated for moderate injuries at Cox South Hospital, Springfield.

Dobos and four other passengers, Annabelle Dobos, 3, Daniel Dobos, 0, Gabriel Dobos, 10, and Annabelle Dobos, 3, were treated for minor injuries at Cox.

The fatalities were the 52nd, 53rd and 54th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.

A Go Fund Me account, the Olivia, Angelina and Julia Fund has been created to help Ionel and Claudia Dobos and their family cover funeral costs and other future expenses.

At this writing, more than $73,000 has been raised of the fund's $100,000 goal.
