(From the Springfield Police Department)On April 15, 2023, at 6:50 a.m., officers with the Springfield Police Department responded to a single-vehicle crash at Loren St. and National Ave.
Steven Nelson, a 54-year-old from Springfield, was driving a blue 2005 Suzuki Vitara southbound on National Ave. at Loren St. The vehicle left the roadway to the right then hit a tree, a wooden display box, and a concrete bench before overturning and coming to rest on the driver’s side. Nelson, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported to the hospital.
Nelson died because of injuries sustained in the crash on April 20, 2023. Nelson’s family has been notified.
The circumstances of the crash are under investigation. Anyone with any information about the crash is encouraged to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810.
This is Springfield’s 12th fatal motor vehicle crash in 2023.
