(From Springfield Public Schools)

Mrs. Kara Boehmer has been named principal of Portland Elementary, replacing Mr. Josh Holt, who will transition to the role of Harrison Elementary principal for the 2018-19 school year. Mrs. Boehmer is currently assistant principal at Hubble Elementary School in the Marshfield R-1 School District. Mrs. Boehmer has prior SPS experience, having served as the assistant to the principal at Disney and Bingham elementary schools. During her time with SPS, she also served as an after-school program coordinator, site test coordinator and Explore principal. In addition to administrative internships in the Park Hill and Willard school districts, Mrs. Boehmer served as a classroom teacher for several years and is passionate about elementary learning.

“I’m very excited to have Mrs. Boehmer return to Springfield Public Schools and serve as the lead learner at Portland Elementary,” said Dr. J. Anderson, executive director of elementary learning for SPS. “She brings a variety of experiences and is committed to a collaborative team approach in support of learning experiences that will benefit students and staff. She is student-centered and looking forward to working closely with families as education partners.”

“I feel privileged to have the opportunity to serve the Portland Elementary community as their instructional leader,” said Mrs. Kara Boehmer. “I look forward to partnering with teachers and families to build successful futures for students. It is my belief that all students have leadership capacity and I look forward to supporting a culture of leadership and opportunity for the students at Portland.”

Mrs. Boehmer holds a bachelor of science degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Evangel University, as well as an education specialist degree in administration from Southwest Baptist University. Mrs. Boehmer plans to begin her doctoral work this summer.
