Fair Grove man killed fleeing from law enforcement, passenger arrested on felony charges

A Fair Grove man was killed after he ran a stop light while fleeing from law enforcement and crashed into another vehicle 7:16 a.m today on James River Freeway in the Springfield city limits

According to the Highway Patrol report, Dillion L. Filbeck, 23, Fair Grove, driving a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado, went through a red light at an intersection and struck a 2016 Jeep Renegade driven by Maranda S. Haner, 36, Springfield.

The Filbeck vehicle traveled off the roadway and overturned, partially ejecting Filbeck and ejecting a passenger, Cassi A. Kilby, 26, Springfield, neither of whom was wearing a seat belt.


Death investigator Tom Van de Berg with the Greene County Medical Examiner's office pronounced Filbeck dead at the scene.

Haner was treated for serious injuries and Kilby for moderate injuries at Cox South Hospital, Springfield.

The Highway Patrol reports Kilby was charged with two felonies, possession of methamphetamine and resisting arrest and two misdemeanors, no seat belt and tampering with a motor vehicle.

The fatality was the 123rd this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
