A Springfield woman was charged with driving while intoxicated and felony involuntary manslaughter following a two-vehicle accident that claimed the life of a Fair Play woman7:52 p.m. Monday on U. S. 60, one-tenth of a mile west of Springfield.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2016 Nissan Sentra driven by Melissa R. Mahan, 37, Springfield, sideswiped the driver's side of a 1997 Hyundai Accent driven by Leslee A. Owrey, 54, Fair Play, causing it to overturn and eject the driver.
Owrey was pronounced dead at Cox South Hospital, Springfield, at 8:59 p.m. by Dr. Jason Greer.
The fatality was the 107th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
