Nixa child killed by suspected drunk driver during high-speed chase


The Christian County Sheriff's Office confirmed Thursday that the collision that killed 9-year-old Alex Finley, Nixa, occurred during a high-speed chase as deputies pursued a 16-year-old boy who was "driving erratically."

The victim was a fourth grader at John Thomas School of Discovery in Nixa.

In a news release, Christian County Sheriff Brad Cole said the pursuit began in Ozark when a deputy tried to pull the teen driver over, but he took off. leading a chase at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.

The news release states the driver of the car then ran a red light at U.S. 160 and Northview and the car crashed into a minivan.

The Missouri Highway Patrol report states a 9-year-old boy in the minivan was killed. A 12-year-old girl is being treated for moderate injuries. The driver suffered serious injuries.

The report shows the driver of the car deputies were chasing was a 16-year-old from Nixa. He suffered severe injuries. His 18-year-old passenger was treated for minor injuries.
