Springfield Public Schools announces three administrative appointments

Springfield Public Schools is pleased to announce the following leadership appointments for the 2022-2023 school year, effective July 1.

Nicole Welch, director of alternative education

Nicole Welch, who is currently an assistant principal at Launch Virtual Learning Center, will be the new director of alternative education. Ms. Welch previously served Parkview High School for two years as assistant principal. 







Prior to that she was coordinator of site interventions at Parkview, Cherokee Middle School and Wilson’s Creek Intermediate School. 

Other experience during her career at SPS includes working as an Explore principal, Transitions program liaison and special education teacher. Ms. Welch is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership at Lindenwood University where she also earned a Specialist in Educational Administration. She also has a Master of Science in Education-Educational Administration, Master of Science in Education-Special Education and Bachelor of Science in Education-Special Education from Missouri State University.

Brenda Dennis, assistant principal at Launch Virtual Learning Center

Brenda Dennis, who is currently director of alternative education, will join Launch Virtual Learning Center as an assistant principal. 








Ms. Dennis has served as director of alternative education for two years. Prior to joining SPS in 2020, she was an assistant principal in Emporia, Kansas. 

Her career also includes work in education in Tennessee and Wisconsin. She earned an Education Specialist in Administration and Supervision and a Master of Education in School Counseling from Freed-Hardeman University in Tennessee. She completed her undergraduate work in education at Cardinal Stritch University in Wisconsin.

Michael Ramos, principal at Springfield Option Site

Michael Ramos, who is currently a process coordinator for Springfield Public Schools, will become the new principal of Springfield Option Site, which is located on the campus of Great Circle. 

Since joining SPS in 2010, Mr. Ramos has served in a variety of roles including assistant principal at Westport Middle School, Explore principal, special education emotional/behavior support teacher and a special education paraprofessional. 

He has a Master of Science in Education Administration from Missouri State University and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resources from Baker College in Flint, Michigan. Mr. Ramos has also served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserves.
