Greene County deputy killed when car washes off road,candlelight vigil planned for tonight

A candlelight vigil will be held 7 p.m. today at the Greene County Sheriff's Office for Deputy Aaron Paul Roberts, who was killed Friday when his ear washed off the road.

The following news releases were issued by the Sheriff's Office:

On September 7, 2018, Deputy Aaron Paul Roberts cleared a 911 call in the 9500 block of Farm Road 2. He was returning to service and moments later radioed that his car was washed off of the road.

Several agencies assisted in rescue efforts. A short time later, Deputy Roberts was found near his patrol car deceased.

We ask that you please keep Deputy Roberts’ family in your prayers during this difficult time.


Earlier news release

On September 7, 2018, a Greene County Deputy cleared a 911 call in the 9500 block of Farm Road 2. He was returning to service and moments later radioed that his car was washed off of the road. Since that last radio traffic, we have not been able to locate the vehicle or communicate with the deputy.

Deputies and Officers from all over the area along with Springfield Fire/Water rescue and 417 Drone Imaging are on scene assisting.
