A Pierce man was killed in a two-vehicle accident 4:15 p.m. Wednesday on MO 37, three miles west of Pierce City.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2010 Volkswagen driven by Tim M. Cowell, 48, Pierce City, crossed the center line and struck a 2012 International driven by Scotty W. Hatfield, 32, Rocky Comfort head on. Lawrence County Coroner Scott Lakin pronounced Cowell dead at the scene at 4:50 p.m.
Hatfield was treated for minor injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.
The fatality was the ninth this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
