Woman accidentally runs over, kills Brookline Station man who was helping her get her vehicle out of park

A Brookline Station pedestrian was run over and killed 11:15 a.m. today at 2709 South Roundhill Road, Brookline Station.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a Paul S. Martin, 59, Brookline Station, was reaching inside a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox to assist Martha B. Martin, 89, in getting the vehicle out of park.

The driver had her foot on the accelerator and when the vehicle was out of park it dragged P. Martin, who fell off and was struck by the vehicle, which rolled over him then continued, finally running into a storm shelter.







Dr. Kenneth Larsson pronounced Paul Martin dead 12:21 p.m. at Mercy Hospital, Springfield.

The fatality was the 79th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
