Christian County Sheriff's Office reports Social Security scam

(From the Christian County Sheriff's Office)

It appears another phone scam is circulating again.

This time the caller claims to be from the Social Security Administration and makes the claim your driver's license has been suspended due to the US Marshals locating a rental vehicle containing narcotics, weapons, etc. and the rental agreement checks back to your name.

They continue by requesting personal information and even provide a badge number of sorts from the investigating agency.

So far we understand there have not been any requests for bank account numbers, money orders, etc., and the information requested is only personal identification information (dates of birth, social security numbers, addresses, etc.).

Please do not fall for the 'shock value' and provide strangers with personal identifying information.

For some, a caller who does not ask for money or bank accounts may appear to be more valid, which is incorrect.

This information is being gathered for fraud and stolen identity incidents at a later date. If you receive a phone scam like this one, please notify your local law enforcement with as much information as you have on the call (was it a blocked number, names, claimed association with government organizations, etc.).
