Police arrest Springfield teen, rescue two captives after armed standoff

Springfield Police Officers were dispatched to 5100 S. Main, Apt B302, concerning a domestic disturbance call at 0538 hours this morning.

The incident involved two female subjects and one male suspect. One of the female subjects remained on the phone with police dispatch and was able to relay that both females were being held against their will. 

The caller also stated that the suspect was armed with a rifle. Officers arrived on scene and located both female subjects on the third-floor balcony of apartment B302. Both females were able to create distance from the suspect and remain on the balcony. The male suspect never exited the apartment, nor did he step out onto the balcony. 

At 1100 am, Officers were able to utilize a utility vehicle to extract both female victims from the balcony and move them to a safe location. Shortly after that, crisis negotiators were able to contact the suspect and he surrendered without further incident.

The suspect has been identified as Lorenzo M. Martinez, a 19-year-old male. He has been arrested for Felonious Restraint and Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and booked into the Greene County Jail.
