Architectural study for renovation/reconstruction options presented to Springfield Board of Education

During the Tuesday, Aug. 7, Board of Education meeting, the Board was presented with an architectural study comparing the cost of renovation and/or reconstruction options for a variety of SPS facilities. View the study here.
This information will be used by the Community Task Force on Facilities as it continues to review the current state of SPS facilities. In the fall, the task force will provide feedback and recommendations to the Board indicating high priority projects that will ensure SPS students have access to safe and quality learning environments.   • The list of facilities studied received a condition score of less than 70 during the facility master planning process. View the list.
  • No decision has been made regarding the next steps for any SPS facility. The scope of work for the architects is limited to studying options.
Timeline of Architectural Study
  • December 12, 2017: The Board of Education selected three architectural services teams to study the feasibility of renovating, expanding, or replacing certain schools. As part of the scope of work, the architects were tasked with determining project budgets for those schools. Firms were tasked with utilizing the specifications and data adopted by the Board of Education as part of the Facility Master Plan in December 2016.
  • February 20, 2018: The Board of Education approved the recommended project list for the architectural study.
  • February 28 – April 4, 2018: The architectural services teams reviewed all information related to the Facility Master Plan, conducted tours of buildings and developed options in diagram form with a description of strengths and weaknesses.
