Springfield Police Department investigates man found dead in vehicle with gunshot wound

Springfield police were dispatched to 1032 E. Commercial at 2:59 p.m. on April 1 after a 911 caller requested officers to check the well-being of a person sitting in a vehicle behind the residence. When officers arrived, they found a deceased male victim inside the vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim was identified as Robert C. Hewitt, 49, of Springfield. Next of kin notifications have been made for the victim.

A suspect has not been identified at this time. Detectives continue to investigate and are asking anyone who has information about this incident to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810 or to make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-8477.
