Mount Vernon woman seriously injured, Springfield teen injured in head-on crash

Two people were injured in a head-on crash 7:55 p.m. Friday on on Highway 174, eight miles northeast of Mount Vernon.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Forest D. Ernst, 19, Springfield, crossed the center line and struck a 2005 Hyundai Triburon driven by Alyssa M. Coward, 22, Mount Vernon, head on.

Coward was treated for serious injuries at Cox South Hospital, Springfield.

Ernst was treated for moderate injuries at Mercy Hospital, Springfield.
