City of Branson names new police chief

The City of Branson is proud to announce the naming of Jeff Matthews as its new Chief of Police to lead the Branson Police Department. Matthews has 33 years of law enforcement experience and is currently serving as Deputy Chief of the Arlington, Texas Police Department. He was chosen from an extremely strong field of candidates selected by a panel composed of diverse sitting police chiefs from across the state of Missouri facilitated by the Missouri Police Chiefs Association (MPCA) in Jefferson City, Missouri and by an internal process involving city leaders, business owners and citizens in Branson.

Matthews will take over for Stan Dobbins who has been serving as interim police chief. Former Police Chief Dobbins is now the Branson City Administrator.

“I’m confident Matthews is the right fit for Branson. He has shown strong leadership and has a proven track record in quality services to a diverse community. He has strong support from both rank and file and the command staff within the Arlington Police Department and I feel he will continue to move the Branson Department forward in its quest for excellence while maintaining a strong commitment to community oriented policing, focusing on our citizens,” said Branson City Administrator Stan Dobbins.

"I’m honored to be selected to serve as Branson’s police chief. I’m excited to work with our officers and staff to better serve our citizens and visitors. As a Department, we will continue to partner with the community to strengthen our community policing initiatives, reduce crime, and effectively address community concerns. My family and I are looking forward to transitioning to Branson and all the opportunities this great community offers,” said Branson Police Chief Matthews.

Matthews will start in Branson early to mid April.

The number one duty is the Police Chief ensures preservation of order, protection of life and property, and enforcement of laws and municipal ordinances for the City of Branson and its citizens, visitors and businesses. The Police Chief is also responsible for planning, directing, managing and overseeing the activities and operations of the Police Department, including law enforcement, criminal investigations, safety and risk mitigation, support services, and administrative functions This position reports to and works under the general supervision of the City Administrator.
