Aurora-Marionville Police Department handles domestic dispute involving gun

(From the Aurora-Marionville Police Department)

Earlier today, AMPD was called to the Prospect Mobile Home Park for a report of a domestic disturbance in progress and that the suspect was armed with a firearm.

As officers arrived, the victim ran from the house to our arriving officers. After making sure she was safe, AMPD began to engage the suspect.

Ultimately, the suspect disarmed himself and resisted arrest. After a brief struggle, he was successfully apprehended. Our staff nor the suspect was seriously injured. The suspect was subsequently transported for medical clearance and then taken to the Lawrence County Jail. The firearm (a handgun) was seized. The victim was not seriously injured during the incident.

The suspect is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

“It cannot be understated how expertly our staff handled this situation. With the information they had, and the observations they made as they rushed to the house, this could have ended much differently. Instead, our officers ran toward a potentially deadly situation, made sure the victim was safe, and skillfully engaged the suspect without the need for more escalated force. These policemen are the best in the business.”~ Chief Coatney
