The Missouri Route 39-to-eastbound-I-44 ramp (Exit 46) at Mt. Vernon will CLOSE and a work zone reducing traffic to one lane in each direction on the interstate will be extended west from Williams Creek (Mile Marker 49) to the Route 39/I-44 interchange (Mile Marker 46) beginning Monday evening, August 19, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
This is to allow contractor crews to complete the archway being built under I-44 at Railroad Drive (Lawrence County Road 1147). Traffic will remain in this configuration until the end of this year. That’s when work on the interstate will stop until March 1, when the weather improves.
The work is part of the I-44 Project Bridge Rebuild project to replace a total of 13 bridges and rehabilitate six more on I-44 between Sarcoxie and Halltown. The $36 million project is scheduled to be completed by December 15, 2021.
