Greene County deputies, Highway Patrol, Strafford Police team to capture fleeing suspect in stolen vehicle

(From the Greene County Sheriff's Office)

On August 17, 2019, Greene County deputies observed a vehicle northbound on Glenstone from Cinderella, driving at high speeds in a careless manner.

Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, however the driver fled.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol helicopter was working with Greene County deputies on a separate project and was able to track the suspect vehicle as it proceeded towards the city of Strafford and at that point deputies backed off.

The suspect then stopped in Strafford near a Strafford Police Officer. As deputies approached the suspect truck, in vehicles, the suspect accelerated rapidly forcing a Sheriff’s patrol car off of the roadway.

The Strafford officer discharged his firearm striking the suspect vehicle. The suspect then proceeded back towards Springfield where tire deflation devices were effectively deployed.

The truck continued towards Springfield at speeds averaging 15 mph before crashing into a pole on Packer Road. The driver fled on foot and stole a Coca Cola semi tractor truck parked at the business and then rammed two other parked Coca Cola vehicles before officers from the MSHP, SPD and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office took the combative suspect into custody. A second occupant in the stolen suspect vehicle was also taken into custody.

The suspect driver who is believed to be impaired was transported to the Greene County Jail where he will be booked in on multiple charges.

“This was an excellent, cooperative effort between several agencies that resulted in the removal of another impaired driver from the streets of Greene County”
-Sheriff Jim Arnott
