According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Justin S. Campbell, 26, Clever, ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected and slid into the path of a 2007 Chevrolet Aveo driven by Dean Curtis, 53, Highlandville, and was struck in the right side.
Campbell was pronounced dead at 11:20 a.m. by Dr. Alexander at Cox South Hospital, Springfield.
Curtis was treated for serious injuries at Mercy Hospital, Springfield.
The fatality was the 71st this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
