Springfield Police release name of shoplifting suspect killed following pursuit, taser firing

On April 1, 2019, at approximately 3:34 P.M., a suspect who had been shoplifting at Walmart, 1923 E. Kearney, fled from Springfield Police Officers. The suspect was apprehended and taken into custody. Once in custody, officers observed that the suspect had stopped breathing and immediately conducted life-saving measures. The male suspect was transported to Mercy Hospital where he later died.

The deceased suspect has been identified as Wally A. McCurdy, a 32-year-old male from Springfield. Next-of-kin notifications have been made for the suspect.








Detectives continue to investigate and ask anyone who has information about this incident to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810 or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-TIPS (8477).

An autopsy will be conducted by the Greene County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death.
