Springfield man dies one week after traffic accident

The Springfield Police Department was dispatched to an injury crash near W. Walnut Street and S. Cloud Avenue at 9:42 a.m. on Jan. 3. 

A 2002 Dodge Dakota driven by Stephanie K. Hoover, 34, of Springfield, was traveling eastbound on Walnut when it struck a 2011 Ford Fusion driven by Robert L. Pfister, 83, of Springfield, which was facing south blocking the eastbound lane of Walnut. 

Hoover reported minor injuries, and Pfister was transported to a local hospital. 

On Jan. 10, Pfister succumbed to the injuries sustained during the crash. Next of kin has been notified. There is no evidence of impairment at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.

This marks the first fatality crash in Springfield for 2017.
