Springfield police officers were dispatched to 1641 W. Whiteside at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 11 after a 911 caller stated a person had been shot at the residence.
Upon arriving at the location, officers had a brief standoff with a suspect who exited the residence without further incident at approximately 5:10 p.m.
Officers then located a deceased female inside the home who had been shot. The suspect, who was identified as Shawn A. Turner, 39, of Springfield, also had serious but non-life threatening injuries consistent with a gunshot wound which appeared to be self-inflicted. He was transported to a hospital and is still being treated at this time.
The deceased female was identified as Kristi Spurlock, 31, of Springfield. Her next of kin notifications have been made. An autopsy will be conducted by the Greene County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Detectives continue to investigate the incident and at this time are asking anyone who has information about this incident to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810 or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-8477.
