City of Springfield officials fondly remember Robert L. "Bob" Jones, who passed away Tuesday, June 3. Jones was an attorney who became active in the community after retiring to the Springfield area.
He served as a member of the Police-Fire Pension Fund Citizens' Task Force, a group instrumental in making decisions that led to the stability of the City of Springfield, said City Manager Greg Burris.
"Bob took his responsibility on the task force seriously, always did his homework, came to the meetings prepared, and was able to drill down to the crux of the issue. He struck me as being both incredibly intelligent and always lighthearted. He did a great service to our community," Burris said.
Attorney Jerry Harmison served on the task force with Jones.
"Mr. Jones was a vital member of the police fire pension task force. His insight and legal experience ultimately benefited our entire community. He will be missed," Harmison said.
Jones also served on numerous other City boards and commissions, including the Traffic Advisory Board and the Multi-Family Guidelines Task Force.
Mayor Bob Stephens says citizen volunteers like Jones serve an important role in local government.
"Although Bob was a relative newcomer to Springfield, he immediately got involved in the community in a very positive way. Our city is a better place because of Bob's work here," Stephens said.
