Inspectors from Branson Fire & Rescue and the Planning and Development Department have responded to a report of structural roof collapse at the Greenbrier Inn, located at 3518 W. Highway 76. Upon inspection, it was determined that there is no structural damage to the building, which is the middle building of the three on the site.
"The building has a pre-cast concrete roof, with insulation and a rubber membrane that lies on top" said Branson Fire Chief Ted Martin. "With the strong winds we had this morning, a large section of this rubber roof was folded over, exposing the concrete ceiling of the upper floor to the rain."
As a precaution, the guests at the hotel are being relocated. Approximately 50 guests were staying in the affected building at the time of the incident. Some will be housed in available rooms in the other buildings on-property which were not damaged. Others are being relocated to other nearby properties based on room availability.
The damage follows the passage of a strong storm system through Southwest Missouri this morning. Fire crews also responded to multiple fire alarms during the thunderstorm, most likely caused by effects power outages, lighting strikes, or water getting alarm systems. No injuries have yet been reported.
The BransonAlerts citizen messaging service was activated this morning around 9:30 to warn neighbors and businesses of the upcoming Severe Thunderstorms Warning. These messages are available by phone, text and email to citizens who register on the City Website www.BransonMO.gov. Alerts were also sent to the local media, hospital and ambulance to help prepare the community for the storm.
