Springfield Art Museum to participate in First Friday Art Walk

(From the City of Springfield)

The Springfield Art Museum will kick off its participation in First Friday Art Walk tomorrow with the opening of its annual Watercolor USA exhibition with a reception 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., Friday, June 6.
The event is free and open to the public and those attending will be provided free shuttle service from the Museum to downtown Springfield.
The Shuttle will transport participants from the Museum to the Creative Foundry located at the corner of South Ave. and McDaniel St. The Museum will have a variety of activities at the Creative Foundry, including demonstrating artists and a potter’s wheel demonstration, a display of Live Art Panels created by local artists and writers at ArtsFest, and the launch of the Museum’s alternate reality game, Art Hunters.

Art Hunters is an interactive adventure that will lead participants to sites across Springfield as they help the Art Hunters, Shane Beckworth and Brock Hansen, in hunting down art that has come to life and escaped the Museum. Both Shane and Brock will be at the Creative Foundry on the evening of June 6 for a character meet and greet and an art hunt in downtown Springfield. The Museum plans to continue providing shuttle service to First Friday Art Walk during the summer months this August and September and in May and June of 2015.
The Watercolor USA opening reception is hosted by the Southwest Missouri Museum Associates. This is the 53rd exhibition of Watercolor U.S.A., a nationally known, annual juried exhibition recognizing aqueous media painting. Featuring some of the country's best-known artists and jurors, the event is open to artists from all 50 states and U.S. territories. Hundreds of entries are received annually and judged for a variety of prizes and possible purchase by the Museum or its patrons. Approximately $40,000 in cash and merchandise awards are available. Organized in 1962 by the Springfield Art Museum, this event attracts thousands of visitors annually to the Museum and to Springfield to view the work of exhibitors.
The Springfield Art Museum is free of charge and the Museum is accessible to all visitors.
