On June 17, 2020, at approximately 1:48 a.m., Springfield Police were dispatched to the area of Hillcrest and Republic Road regarding an injured male near the roadway.
At about the same time, another 911 call was received from Golden Pond Apartments, 4120 S. Hillcrest. A resident at that address reported at least two males had attempted to force entry into his apartment and one of them had a firearm.
Police arrived and determined the injured male had probable gunshot wounds and was likely one of the alleged intruders from the incident at the nearby apartment complex.
The injured individual was identified as Joshua L. Woods, a 25-year-old male from Nixa, Missouri. He was transported to a local hospital but was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Next of kin notifications have been made. Detectives continue to investigate and are working to identify any other possible suspects.
