Branson man killed in head-on collision on 96 near Halltown

A Branson man was killed and two other people injured in a two-vehicle collision 9:25 a.m. today on MO 96, two miles west of Halltown.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2011 GMC Sierra driven by Benjamin J. Powell, 30, Springfield, crossed the center line and struck a 2019 Toyota Rav 4 driven by Richard B. Guthrie, 72, Branson, head on.

Lawrence County Coroner Scott Lakin pronounced Guthrie dead at the scene at 9:50 a.m.







Powell and a passenger in the Guthrie vehicle, Linda S. Guthrie, 71, Branson, were taken to Cox South Hospital, Springfield, to be treated for moderate and serious injuries, respectively.

The fatality was the 12th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
