The City of Springfield will host a Veterans Day ceremony honoring City employees and retirees who have served in our Armed Forces at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9 at the entrance to the Phil Broyles Public Works and Environmental Services Complex (1111 W. Chestnut Expressway).
The ceremony will include a special memorial dedication to late Deputy City Manager Gen. Fred Marty. Marty, a retired major general in the U.S. Army, served as vice president of administration at Missouri State University, chancellor of the university’s West Plains campus and executive director of the Wonders of Wildlife Museum before joining the City in 2010. As the Deputy City Manager, he participated in the development of plans to meet environmental standards, the direction of building development services, public works, human resources and more. Marty passed away in 2013 after a battle with cancer.
