Greene County Sheriff's Office warns of scam

(From the Greene County Sheriff's Office)

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office has received several reports from citizens, who have been receiving calls from someone claiming to be a captain with the sheriff’s office.

The suspect in these phone calls threatens to arrest the citizen if they do not pay a specified amount of money for failing to appear for jury duty, and advises the citizen they are in contempt of court. The suspect will instruct the citizen to obtain a “Green Dot Card”, a type of prepaid Visa card, and meet the suspect at the Greene County Courthouse.

The sheriff’s office warns citizens not to give personal or financial information to a caller. If you receive a call reference this scam, you can contact the sheriff’s office at 417-868-4040.
